💎THE RESULTS: RomanceClub Community Survey!💎
First of all, thank you very much to everyone who took part in the second ever Reddit Romance Club community survey! We mods were absolutely amazed by the high number of responses, so thank you for making this such a vibrant and engaged community! You all rock.
After grinding the (many) numbers, here are the results, which we hope you will find as interesting as we did.
Just a note: this survey was opened at the end of May and closed shortly after the June release, hence its questions only barely included Legend of the Willow and did not include Dracula: a Love Story. For this reason, we have not counted the (very few) replies that have been given in the "other" boxes mentioning characters that were not yet available as Lis/known as LIs in the May release (think Leo, Vlad, Kazu etc) as this would have not been fair to those who had answered the survey before the June update.
Having said that... buckle up for the ride! Lots of interesting info ahead.

💎Question 1: Which RC story is your favourite?

https://preview.redd.it/rlq02ktm0y951.png?width=1890&format=png&auto=webp&s=7ac99dcf156eba4a1e7a25e118cedb51ed21847c
No one will be surprised to find out that Heaven's Secret is the top story in this community right now, chosen by over 45% of the respondents. Our nostalgic heart is very happy, however, to see some old favs still make the podium - albeit trailing significantly behind. Moonborn and Shadows of Saintfour score second and third place, only separated by a handful of votes at around 11%, but newer release Chasing You is already breathing on their neck at 10.7%.
A healthy mix of new and old stories follows: Sails in the fog is in fifth place with 7.8% of the preferences, while Legend of the willow, after only a few episodes, already scores a very good sixth place, in a tie with Seduced by the rhythm at 4.3% of the votes. Queen in 30 days is seventh with 3.5% and My Hollywood Story is eighth with 1.2%.
Last place goes to Wave Patrol at 0.4%, which sadly doesn't come as a shock given the general feeling that the romantic/reputation points system was too complicated.
----

💎Question 2: Who are your favourite LIs?

https://preview.redd.it/x17lqdnw3y951.png?width=1020&format=png&auto=webp&s=6d560448445a77f5f076fcce43358b1dbb94c094
HS being the most popular story unsurprisingly propels some of its main LIs onto the podium with supersonic speed.
Bad boys rule, with Lucifer taking the crown with a whopping 65.7% of the votes and Alexander (CY) taking silver at 49.3%. The nice guys are not too far behind, though, with Dino in third place at 47.4% and Max (MB) only just about missing the podium in fourth place at 45.3%. We go back to bad boys with Brandon (SBR) in fifth, but soft spoken Sam (CY) is ready to balance things out again with his sixth place.
The most surprising result on top of the rankings is Jake (WP) who makes the top ten with a very healthy seventh place. He is really hard work, but obviously we all think he's totally worth it!
Old favourites Michael (SOS) and Victor (MB) still hold onto the hearts of their fans by scoring eight and ninth place respectively. First among the women - and the only female LI to make the top 10 - is the delightfully devilish Mimi (HS).
Waves' mate Sebastian misses the top ten only by a hair, placing himself in 11th place with a healthy 20.7%. Bodyguard Adam is the most favourite LI in Q30 in 12th place, followed by a row of SOS boys, with John, Derek and Aaron scoring very similar percentages in 13th, 14th and 15th place respectively. Sweetheart Ray is no longer the most favourite LI to come out of MHS, as in this round he ends up in a tie for 16th place with none other than his almost polar opposite, rough and ready Captain Jeff.
Leonard from Q30 (17th place) ties with Cherry from SOS but at least he beats his brother Richard (20th place) in the heart of the readers - and we all know that he'd be pretty pleased with that. Claire (SBR) is the second most favourite female LI in 18th place, while mysterious Luke (SOS) completes the top 20 in 19th place.
Here are the rest of the Lis who placed lower than the top 20:
(21) Carlos (SBR) 9.2%
(22) Justin (SBR) 8.6%
(23) Benny Bart (MB) 8.4%
(24) Tarino (MHS) 8.1%
(25) Gino (MHS) tied with Stephanie (SOS) at 7.8%
(26) Dante (MB) 6.9%
(27) Andy (HS) 6.3%
(28) Mike (MHS) 6.1 %
(29) Alek (WP) tied with Dante (CY) at 5.9%
(30) Kayla (WP) 5.3 %
(31) Alex (MHS) 3.9%
(32) Chris (SIF) 3.4%
(33) Frances (MB) 3.2%
(34) William (SIF) 3.1%
(35) Trisha (MB) 2.6%
(36) Charles (SBR) 2.1%
(37) Orlando (SBR) 1.8%
(38) Chris the bodyguard (MHS) tied with Adi (HS) at 1.6%
(39) Ellen (MHS) tied with Manta (SIF) at 1.2%
(40) Masked Man (SOS) 1.1%
(41) Ellia (CY) 0.8%
(42) Mermaid (SIF) 0.6%
(43) Simon (MB) 0.4%
(44) Charles (WP) tied with Emma (Q30) and Jackie (SIF) at 0.2%.
These lower rankings include some LIs that, based on the discussions we see on the subreddit, we were not expecting to get as many votes as they did - and vice versa. Dante from CY has more votes than Orlando from SBR? And Chris the bodyguard (MHS) beat the Masked Man (SOS)? Say what... Also: Jackie (SIF) definitely deserved a lot more votes! We might have to start a hashtag or something.

💎Question 3: Which non-LI character you’d romance in a heartbeat?

https://preview.redd.it/vd1u59tk10a51.png?width=863&format=png&auto=webp&s=df9e41d03e7af6b60396f96dbfed685b8e425b8e
Here are the top 15 most desired LIs in this community:
To absolutely no one's surprise, Geralt (HS) takes the top spot with 39.1% of the readers eager to unbuckle his sexy neck belts at the first occasion. Dreamy Xander from MB takes a very respectable second place with 23.2%: we will forever long for his full lips and crisp linen suit. Another MB favourite, Prince Ethan Wood completes the podium with his Matrix-style coat and intense eyes, but sassy and sexy demon Austie (HS) is not very far behind in fourth place.
Vampires Dustin Chase in fifth place and - although at quite a distance - Sophia in sixth join the ranks of the many LIs who sadly never were in MB. Cute lifeguard Zoey from WP ranks seventh, and no worries if you don't remember who she is: her screen time was about 5 minutes total - but enough to end up in a tie with angelic mentor Misselina from HS. Frenemy Candy from SOS makes eighth place, while evil stunner Monica from MB clutches ninth. To complete the top 10 is no one else but grumpy Angel Fencio (HS) - we obviously all want him to show us his collection of talismans - tied with Bean from MHS, who sadly had the audacity to get married to someone else.
In 11th place is SOS great friend Bobby, whose bravery in the face of untold horrors gave him a special place in all our hearts, in a tie with another WP lifeguard, Ryan (yeah, we have little recollection of him as well). Party-loving and OSHA nemesis Anthony Wood (MHS) is in 12th place, while scheming yet gorgeous Julia (Q30) takes 13th.
In 14th place is no one else but our dear Sailor Bobby - an option that was added as humorous but instead raked up a fairly respectable 14% of votes. As they say, if you are not handsome you should be handy, and no one is a better dress maker than Bobby! Plus, how can we forget when he disguised himself as a tribesman to save Adelaide from becoming soup? He ends up in a tie with a fan favourite, sweet angel Sammy (HS). Completing the top-15 is another HS angel, the ethereal Leeloo.
This question also had an "other" box, where people could add names that were not included in the list. For all those (quite a few!) people who wrote Dino (HS), Sam (CY) and Orlando (SBR)... we choose to believe you misread the question, but if you didn't... oh boy, have we got good news for you!
A few people also wished for Rachel (CY) and Hiro (SBR) to be LIs, so that's another happy ending there as per the latest release.
Some also wished for Diego, Baron Samedi and Jackie from SIF, and Joseph, Christian and Gustavo from SBR to be LIs, and we are happy to say that, although their routes might be a bit hidden and not all of them can be endgame LIs, you can most definitely already hookup with/romance all of them. Check the wiki for details!
A few people asked for the coffee shop owner in CY... we have the feeling that we know who at least one of them is, and truth be told, that beard is dreamy so we can see their point! More bearded LIs please!
Those who asked for Fyr... far from us to kink shame here, but let's just hope he turns out to be human at some point! We also have some Seraph Crowley (HS) and Angel Mora (MB) fans amongst us, as clear proof that no one is ever too old for love, plus WP Agent Phillips' manbun has also scored him some eager fans.
But that one person who asked for Sean from MB... we hope for your sake you are also about 12 years old because otherwise you need an old priest, a young priest and also a police officer.

💎Question 4: Which LI do you think is overrated, and why?

https://preview.redd.it/nea26zpyj2a51.png?width=855&format=png&auto=webp&s=dfeefda0ad627357d4a76c4e2fef0f3b4a42deca
Here are the top 10 most overrated LIs in the game according to our community.
You know how they say never rest on your laurels? In a surprising (or maybe not?) twist of fate, some of the most liked LIs also topped the most overrated rankings, which goes to show that the beauty of our community is that we all have different (and sometimes opposite) opinions! So please let's not fight in the comments, haha.
The most overrated LI crown goes to Lucifer with the 21.9% of the votes, (which is almost as him winning an Oscar and a Razzie on the same evening) mostly due to his behaviour, which many identify as "toxic", "abusive" and "triggering". Many readers are "not comfortable with his choking/manhandling of MC", and his "lack of respect for personal space". "Being treated poorly in the hope to finally reach a hidden soft side does not seem worth it". Some think "he needs therapy", and wonder "why he's still behaving like a teen while he's possibly thousands of years old". A reason why many dislike him however, is also "the daily flood of fanart that features him": we might all be a little Lucifered-out here on the subreddit!
Tied in second place (pun fully intended!) are Alexander (CY) and Victor (MB) at 11.5%: the reasons given for both of them are surprisingly similar. Both boys are into BDSM but neither seem to "truly know the rules of consent" and people think that they "overstep boundaries a little too often". Both have been described as "creepy", "controlling" and "plain weird". Victor is also guilty of being "boring" ("I asked for a tea not for your life story in India!" - someone wrote). Both have been invited to "drop the Christian Grey act" and some people think "they would be arrested in real life if they acted this way". Oh boy.
Justin (SBR) completes this unflattering podium at 9.1% because of his "obnoxious outbursts" and the way he treats MC. He is "rude" and "mean" and people seem to be willing to "pay diamonds to put him in his place". Hopefully that won't be necessary!
Jake from WP is fourth at 7.8%, the main reason being that he is "too difficult to romance", "too expensive and still rude", and that "we have to solve the Da Vinci code to get him" - as someone hilariously wrote.
Bad boy Brandon (SBR) scores 6.1% of the votes landing fifth place, with the word "jerk" being the most recurrently used to describe him. He is "arrogant", a "vanishing act", and "he is never nice to MC for long". Come on, Brandon! You can do better!
Unclaimed Andy (HS) takes sixth place with 4.5% for being "jealous" and "annoying" - although we would maybe argue that he's not really that overrated, as far as we can see from the sub...
In seventh place is Max (MB) at 4.1% but we are confused by the person who mentioned "his abs being too perfect" as a reason for disliking him. Of course, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing, so... fair enough? Other words used are "too boring", otherwise many people voted for him but did not really give a reason why. Max needs to work on his PR clearly!
Another tie in eight place sees Adam (Q30) and Dino (HS) score 3.7% of the votes. The Royal bodyguard is described as "a barbarian" and his behaviour as "possessive" and "controlling", while the main complaints against Dino seem for the vast majority to be directed to his looks: comments range from "his eyes look disproportionally big compared to his head" to "his hair seems separated from his face" to some people calling him a "Fabio lookalike". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder indeed!
Gruff Captain Jeff (MHS) makes ninth with 3.3%, mostly because of "the dodgy power dynamic between him and MC" and his "bullying": "I like puppies is not a free get out of jail card!" someone wrote. The fact that SOS Luke "drugged MC" bags him unanimously the tenth spot with 2.8% of the votes.
Not in the top ten but voted often enough to deserve a special mention are John (SOS) because of his "murderous tendencies", Derek (SOS) because "people only likes him for his glow-up", and Leonard (Q30) as "he took Emma's spot as the third main LI in the story" and "that was a cop out!" Plus "he seems so good only because the other two are the worst", someone quipped.
----

💎Question 5: Which LI do you think is underrated, and why?

https://preview.redd.it/t29ndbj8n2a51.png?width=1007&format=png&auto=webp&s=c817ac45f70f9210476feda212af736ad18b8f17
Let's all cheer ourselves up with the opposite end of the spectrum! Here are the top 10 Lis that the community think deserve more love! The answers in this question were a lot more fragmented, with a lot of random characters getting very few votes, so the ranking percentages are significantly lower than in other questions.
A few people chose to write "every female LI" as this question's answer, and this is reflected in the rankings below, where way more female characters are mentioned compared to other questions. So RC, we need more screen time for badass, gorgeous, interesting female LIs!
HS still carries its weight as the most popular story, with three of its main LIs topping the rankings, all lamenting the fact that they are "unfairly overshadowed by bad boy Lucifer". Andy tops the list with 8.5% of the votes: players think he is "a really good guy", "sweet", "cute", "caring", "thoughtful". They admit "he has flaws" but he "will help if you need him" and "will stand up for those he cares about". It's nice to see him getting some love!
Devil cutie Mimi ends up as a close second with only a few votes of difference, at 8.1%. She is "cute", "badass", and "so cool". Many people wrote they don't usually romance female Lis but they chose her nonetheless because she is "a great LI in every way". Someone wishes RC would "flesh her out a little more" and "give her more screen time". Third spot is for Dino: a "sweetheart" and "the cutest man in the game".
Jake from WP nabs fourth place with the 4.9% of votes. Players thinks the focus is too much on how hard he is to pursue, while "he is totally worth it", because after the initial coldness he becomes "sweet", "kind" and "caring". His "love for his family is another big plus", and he is always "supportive", "mature", "loyal" and "intense". Someone also wrote that "his sex scenes are amazing".
Gorgeous dancer Carlos from SBR is in fifth place: he is described as "cute", "great personality", "respectful" and "the sweetest". One to watch for sure! Prince Leonard (Q30) ties with Claire (SBR) in sixth place. Leonard is "complicated", "interesting" and "clever", while Claire is "sweet", "mature" and "loyal". Seventh position is for Michael (SOS) - "cute", "affectionate", "funny" - and Kayla (WP) who's "really nice" and "one of the first female LIs that didn't seem like a complete afterthought".
Eight place goes to Sam (CY) - "wholesome", "the right amount of naughty and nice", "a sweet and likeable guy" - in a tie with Chris (SIF) - "funny", "strong", "loyal", "always has your back". Ninth place is another tie between Sebastian (SIF) - "sweet" and "supportive" - and Alex (MHS) - "amazing personality", "really helpful".
Last but not least the tenth place is a foursome: William (SIF) gets some love for being "good", "solid", "loyal" and "fun", in a tie with Charles (SBR) - described as "perfect", "romantic" and "caring", as well as "hot", "sexy" and "gentle" - Jackie (SIF) - "an under-appreciated king", "handsome" and "fun", and Frances (MB) - a "real badass" and "one of the best LIs in MB".
So, time to replay your favourite book and try out one of these Lis instead than your usual one!
----

💎Question 6: If you could eat or drink one thing from the RC universe, what would you choose?

https://preview.redd.it/q1oepb874y951.png?width=1108&format=png&auto=webp&s=fbd376a81dffac4123ffdfd8963ef87164466f35
Max (MB) might no longer hold the crown of most loved LI in the game, but his cooking skills still hold strong. A whopping 37.2% of the people in this community would eat anything he prepares. Getting drunk on Glyft at the HS Academy takes second spot with 23.1% of the preferences, while a sugar rush after a light BDSM session in CY is all what the 13.2% of us want, completing this delicious podium.
In fourth place is pizza with a bunch of MHS friends, fifth is potential death - as long as ice cream and Jake from WP are involved - and sixth is Anthony Wood's juice at one of his epic MHS parties.
Dinner at the SOS circus is seventh, chosen by a fearless 3% of the community, while canapés at a jewellery fashion show in Q30 score the eighth and last place.
----

💎Question 7: If you could spend a weekend in any RC story, would you:

https://preview.redd.it/0nxu9upf4y951.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=2cbcbded6cb23da8f9f16e96e7cd65be46dee8fd
An entire weekend in the RC universe! What mischief is our community planning to get up to?
It looks like HS is once again top of the list, with over 38% of players willing to test their wings and get some strange and possibly corrosive blue liquid down their unclaimed throats. But LOW's gorgeous backgrounds and atmospheric setting have convinced the 16% of us to go explore a Japanese village, and possibly meet some mysterious cutie. Adelaide and her SIF crew navigate steadily in third place: 10.7% of us would follow them over the edge of the world and beyond.
In fourth place is a spot of murder mystery fun in CY, as 10.3% of us would happily explore a British family mansion - bloodshed possible but not guaranteed. A diplomatic trip with the Q30 Sagar Royal Court appeals to the 6.1% of us, especially if a romantic sunset is on the bill. The quaint and frankly unsettling SOS woods do not scare the 5.7% of us, but as long as no one picks up a nice bouquet of flowers, we should all be ok. In seventh place is our favourite vampire popstar Benny Bart (MB) performing at the Taste of the Night, while eighth is a dance marathon in SBR, inclusive of a trip to romantic Paris. Tarino's somewhat unusual directorial skills in MHS score ninth place, while hot surfers in WP's Miami end up last.
----

💎Question 8: If you could get more episodes of a series that has now ended, which one would you choose?

https://preview.redd.it/qts8kk8i9y951.png?width=766&format=png&auto=webp&s=2b7135c2692b604dd9c9ad4b14bafa93cd4ecad0
It's time to go down memory lane! We loved all the stories that RC has now completed, but which one we miss the most?
Side note: SIF and WP were still ongoing when this survey was first opened hence they are not featured in this list.
Horror story SOS takes a clear lead, with over 47% of our community wishing we could get more adventures with MC and her friends. MB is second, with a healthy 34% of readers wishing to spend more time in the company of vampires and werewolves. Q30 is third, with 13.3% of readers missing its Royal Palace and all the intrigue coming with it, and last but not least is comedy MHS, which is missed by 5.4% of this community.
----
And now, some questions about this community's gaming habits:
----

💎Question 9: How do you usually approach LI relationships?

https://preview.redd.it/v31scb2y4y951.png?width=834&format=png&auto=webp&s=6aa1f057936a83909a229f610e50e4a43b17f0d1
This question had a fairly split response between those who date a few LIs but ultimately choose only one (48.9%) and those who are fiercely monogamous from the start (42.4%). A healthy 8.7% of the readers prefer instead to play the field and date as many LIs as the gameplay will allow. And with so many great characters to choose from, that's hardly a surprise!
----

💎Question 10: Would you play a book that has a male MC?

https://preview.redd.it/w15bvu885y951.png?width=826&format=png&auto=webp&s=b748f781448de34a98795a11470adc1e2dfe7129
We all know that at the moment all RC stories are gender-locked with a female MC. But what does the community think? Would we play a book with a male MC? The majority is in favour, with 61.9% of the responders answering with a resounding YES.
----

💎Question 11: Do you use the RC wiki on Fandom?

https://preview.redd.it/j3bxwpgh5y951.png?width=777&format=png&auto=webp&s=97b8b0713957bf5ff133710b8cb1727411ec87c2
Our amazing fan-written Romance Club wiki recently celebrated 100 pages!
It sounds like a whopping 78.8% of this community uses the wiki, while about 14.1% did not know it existed (so we hope you are using it now!) and 7.1% are true daredevils who play without any wiki help.
----

💎Question 12: What genre of story do you enjoy the most?

https://preview.redd.it/9ht7sl4u5y951.png?width=908&format=png&auto=webp&s=834f8b8a3f6a0c9465a3b9e74d5a3f70dfe77b9c
With new stories always coming up, we were curious to know which genres this community enjoys the most.
Despite the game being called Romance Club, the top of the genre ranking goes to Fantasy, with a striking 74.1% of preferences. But no worries: Romance is a steady second with a great 70.8% of the votes. Third place goes to Mystery with 65.7%.
Adventure comes fourth with 55.2%, followed by Horror (42.5%), Historical (35.1%), Science Fiction (29.1%) and finally Comedy (26.4%).
A very small number of people (too little to make percentage) also asked for drama, thriller, detective/crime, heist/spy, high school/teens, superheroes, zombies and time travel. All great ideas!
The community has spoken though: RC, give us elves and gnomes and medieval tales of debauchery and magic!
----

💎Question 13: How long have you been playing Romance Club for?

https://preview.redd.it/irpho4w06y951.png?width=832&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f4cfd29dd89db03bfc910a5355ad8d47844668e
We were curious to know for how long we all have been playing this game we love. The survey showed a good mix of old and new readers, with a clear tendency towards long-term reading, which makes us so very happy to know we are all just equally addicted.
36% stated that they have been playing for over a year, 23.6% for more than six months, 17.8% for more than three months, 16.1% for more than one month and 6.4% for less than a month. Welcome one and all, we hope you are all going to be here for the long haul!
----

💎Question 14: How did you find out about the game Romance Club?

https://preview.redd.it/3rcvli496y951.png?width=745&format=png&auto=webp&s=c48166ce7feee6ee5dab1c00fac3ea6dd3ab43ff
The main way in which our community has found out about RC is through the app store/google play store (70.9%). Another subreddit is a source for 13.5% of us (we probably have to say thank you to our friends at Lovestruck and Choices!) while a friend recommended the game to 8.7% of us.
Instagram (3%) and Facebook (1.5%) are also popular sources, but 2.4% of us arrived to the game through adverts, which is to us the most interesting data since in the mod team we haven't personally seen any adverts for this game - ever - so if anyone has screenshots, please post them in the comments, we are super curious!
Some users (too few to make percentage) also mentioned videos and memes on TikTok or Youtube, Google Search, Tumblr, Twitter, Vkontakte or even their own sister(s) as a source.
----

💎Question 15: Which operating system do you play the game on?

https://preview.redd.it/j6zb31bg6y951.png?width=772&format=png&auto=webp&s=be90706aaa9835b173355c50388a6c5197ac786b
The majority of this community plays on Android (57.7%) while 42.3% play on iOS.

💎Question 16: Which other story games do you play?

https://preview.redd.it/pcyngwew6y951.png?width=807&format=png&auto=webp&s=1e3f1f4956dfb8bc4e247d6a179a4153b62fc7da
Here are the top-10 story app games we play in this community, aside from RC.
Unsurprisingly, market leader Choices comes first with 53.3% of the votes. Another giant in the field, Episodes, comes second - although with quite a substantially smaller percentage of votes, clocking at 28.1%. The top-three is completed by UK TV show-inspired Love Island with the 24.6%.
Chapters is the fourth most played game at 24.2%, followed by Lovestruck and Love Sick - tied at 16.1%. Moments is sixth at 13.1%, new entry on the market Stories: Love and choices follows in seventh with 5.3%, Journeys is eighth with 4.7% and The Arcana is ninth with 2.6%. The top-ten is completed by Tabou Stories: Love Episodes in a tie with Originals - both at 1.2%.
Some also reminisced about Storyscapes (gone too soon but not forgotten!) and many other game apps were mentioned but by too few people to make up for an accountable percentage. We surely discovered some games we had never heard of before, though, including: Fictif, Heart's Choice, Everlasting Summer, Fancy Love, Romance: Stories and choices, Secrets: Game of choices, Fictions: Choose your emotions, Mystic Messenger, City of Love and many, many more... so thanks everyone for all these new suggestions!
And to that one person who selected half a dozen games and then commented with "it is a problem!" ... trust us, you are in very, very good company here!!
----
And lastly, some demographics:
----

💎Question 17: Where in the world are you from?

https://preview.redd.it/wi54oynj7y951.png?width=742&format=png&auto=webp&s=67fd4ef85a56518876e64f5f1e35d704dc5d241a
We are a very international bunch, that's for sure! Here are the numbers:
45.5% of this community lives in Europe, 24.3% in North America, 16.9% is in Asia, 5.7% is in Central/South America, 5.3% is in Africa and 2.3% is in Australia/New Zealand. Welcome one and all! We are so happy you are here.
----

💎Question 18: How old are you?

https://preview.redd.it/hgiuu3dq7y951.png?width=785&format=png&auto=webp&s=106185756ec1cfd67c4c1bb94a8bda1ce6f5a6d3
How old are we? The survey has spoken: 44.7% is between the ages of 18 and 24; 28.1% is between 25 and 35; 21.1% is 17 or younger; 6.1 % is 36 or older.
We must admit that we did not expect so many people to be on the younger end of the spectrum! But we hope everyone - of all ages - will always find this subreddit to be a safe, welcoming and friendly place where to discuss this game we all love. We mods work hard every day to keep this the most relaxed and fun RC space on the net and we feel so lucky that you are all as awesome as you are!

💎Question 19: What is your gender identity?

https://preview.redd.it/kkr5bm1x7y951.png?width=810&format=png&auto=webp&s=90068fd1b9c2762f5b181b56af647848529c14e2
The overwhelming majority of this community (93.5%) identifies as female, while 4.6% identifies as male, 1.3% is non-binary, 0,4% identifies as genderqueer and 0.2% marked themselves as confused.
The fact that MC is gender-locked female and that LGBTQ routes are limited in the game is certainly one of the reasons why our community is not more diverse. Hopefully RC will expand their stories to include more diverse gender choices in terms of MCs and LIs, so to allow more people to enjoy their great storytelling skills.
----

💎Question 20: What is your sexual orientation?

https://preview.redd.it/iskgfuk38y951.png?width=749&format=png&auto=webp&s=0d0cd01d9bedfb1f577206939bc22b959bc6921e
Here's the sexual orientation of our community:
70.1% identifies as Straight/Heterosexual
22.5% identifies as Bisexual
1.9% identifies as Lesbian/WLW
1.7% identifies as Pansexual
1.5% identifies as Gay/MLM
0.4% identifies as Aromantic
0.3% identifies as Aromantic/Bisexual
0.3% identifies as Asexual
0.3% identifies as Demisexual
0.2% identifies as Asexual/Biromantic
0.2% identifies as Asexual/Heterosexual
Once again, we hope that future plots featuring more diverse MC/LIs will attract more diverse players to our community.
----
That's all folks! We hope you found these results interesting and we look forward to a new survey once we hit 5000 users! Until then... happy gaming and thanks for making this awesome community as great as it is! :)

Game V.A - HWWWWW - Roles, Rules, and Regristration!

This May, we’re having two games:
Game A will have a fairly simple set-up, but a lot of the jokes and flavour will refer back to prior games over the past 2.5 years of Werewolves history, and it’ll be harder to understand for newer members of the community. If that makes you less comfortable, we would recommend signing up for Game B! It is fully newbie friendly! :)

A message from your hosts

This is a serious section, so we’re putting it at the top of the page (yes, it’s true we can be serious)!
We’ve noticed in some recent games that players and facilitators aren’t always on the same page in terms of mechanics. We have a long history of facilitators wording their rules post in a very precise way to allow for myriad possibilities, and we’re fully conscious of the fact that prior games we’ve hosted and shadowed have used overly secretive wording for gameplay reasons. We want our game to be as transparent as possible while still preserving a sense of mystery, hopefully minimize misunderstandings/misconceptions, and explain how we approach the facilitator-player relationship.
The most important thing in any game, in our collective opinion, is that the facilitators and players have trust in each other to deliver a good game. The facilitators have to trust the players to take their cherished, brand new, untested experience, and run with it. The players have to trust that the facilitators are giving all of their players a relatively equal playing field, and that they have the necessary tools to kill each other and all that fun stuff. Werewolves is inherently a game of deception, but we three want that deception to be player-player deception, not facilitator-player. This is your game against each other, and we intend to keep it that way. So with that in mind:
We can’t promise we’ll be perfect. We can’t promise absolute consistency. We’re only human, after all, and there has not been a single game in Werewolves history to pass from beginning to end without at least one goof up. But we want this game to be friendly, fun, and fair for everyone, not just for the people with all the info. This is our promise to you, the players, from us, the facilitators.
Love and kisses, Moose, Peets, and Smatan
NOW, BACK TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED SHITPOSTING.
^ p.s. If any future hosts want to steal this for your own games, or make a modified version, please do. We stole most of our rules from other games, after all.

The following game is not suitable for all audiences. Player discretion is advised.

The official flavour of today’s post is *something hearty and fulfilling, like a beef roast.
[insert witty and creative flavour text here]
Welcome to /HogwartsWerewolves, the shitpost that spawned a game that spawned a shitpost that spawned a game.

Mechanics

/HWW, The Game, is running on combined day/night phase. Our phases will not have numbers because there are too many numbers in Werewolves already, and too much math turns you into a Belgian or obsessed with guinea pigs. They will have names like the I C O N I C g.oddesses they are. Day kills (lynches) always resolve before night kills (when player X says “hey, I’d like to kill player Y, please let me use my action to shoot your face off #SecondAmendment”). Everyone needs to submit a vote every single day. Votes and actions are being submitted in the same form. Each phase will last approximately 24 hours, and the phases will change at 10:00:00 PM, EDT (UTC -4:00).
If there’s a tie for the lynch target, both people will die. We just love killing. If your night action target dies in the lynch, you don’t get a backup, so CHOOSE WISELY. Although it’d be hilarious if you try to protect a dead body. All actions CAN be performed on dead people, if that’s your thing.
PapaRNGesus372 is the mod account for this game, 372 blessings be upon him.
There will be two teams. (Yes, two. No neutral roles. Sorry to all the lost Perryman bastards out there.) The GlaMODzons are this month’s equivalent of the wolves. They think they’re the coolest, and they want to run the subreddit like an oligarchy. Gross. The Players think the mods suck, probably because they do. They want to run this sub like anarchy.

SACRED WIN CONDITIONS, THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE RULES POST OTHER THAN ALL THE OTHER IMPORTANT PARTS

The GlaMODzons will win when more GlaMODzons are alive in /HogwartsWerewolvesA than Players.
The Players will win when all of the GlaMODzons have been exiled from /HogwartsWerewolvesA.
There are no neutral roles. None whatsoever. No Mortimer the Mouse. No Mother Trudy. Not even a Reynard. If you’re evil, you’ll have to fake claim something else. Maybe you could claim Confused Citizen or Telekinetic? I hear that works alarmingly well.
Also, no secondary win conditions. Sorry, Madam Vice-President.

Game C

Have you ever thought, “Oh hey! I remember the Quarantine Zone from Epidemic! Wouldn’t it be cool if it were actually real this time?” Well, look no further! All eliminated players will be sent to Game C for a predetermined by us amount of time (no bamboozles), where they will have the opportunity to perform challenges that will aid the living players. Once their time’s up, they’ll go to /HogwartsGhosts. These challenges will be fun, goofy, and irreverent, because we’re way lazier than the Sherlock, Old Kingdom, and Epidemic hosting teams. Of course, participation is optional. What are we gonna do, kill you twice? You’re not AJ.
For the purposes of the main sub and win conditions, Game C players are considered to be dead, and cannot return to /HogwartsWerewolvesA. HOWEVER, Game C players are considered to still be a part of the game, and despite being private is still definitely a place where information can trickle back to the main game. /HogwartsGhosts is NOT a part of the game, and all information can be shared there if so desired so there’s no need to worry about a certain player being resurrected 5 times or something.
There’ll be a Part II on Game C later on in the rules post, because we really want people to actually read this post.

Reveals

In our daily posts, we will be revealing:
  • full voting charts, including who voted for whom
  • the affiliation of the dead players
In PM, we will be revealing:
  • MUAHAHAHAHA. You’ll see!

Roles

Show of hands...how many of you scrolled down just to this part of our rules post? Oh wait, was that all of you? Make sure to read the rest of it before you sign up, eh? Anyways, each role can occur between 0 and 40 times (but probably not 40, we’re not making a Sideshow Bob), unless we state otherwise. There may or may not be secret roles. Who knows?
Also, as you’ll see below, people’s affiliation CAN change in the game. So you know. Check yourself.

The GlaMODzons

The GlaMODzons will be divided into two separate subreddits: /Permagods and /ScreamTeam. They will always have the ability to kill, even when the kill roles are toast.

The Permagods

  • elbowsss -- There is literally too much to make fun of with this chicken hoarding, beer guzzling, meany moderator bullying villain who thinks everyone with a little bit of hair anywhere on their body is just a clean-shaven wolf. But the worst part? Her secret Kardashian evangelism. Once in a game, Khloe Elbowsss can visit a players’ house to induct another into her cult. That player, and everyone performing an action on them at the time, will be sent to Game C to cleanse themselves.
  • oomps62 -- (p)oomps can never goddamn decide who she’s going to be at any given moment. Is she oomps, the professional crazy cat lady and vanity curtain enthusiast who is as pure as a Carly Bae album’s sound quality? Or is she poomps, the ~spicy~ troll taunting Werewolves with her unlynchability who loves nothing more than ruining everyone else’s dream celebrity blowjobs? She’s infected this game with a similar identity crisis. Three times in a game, (p)oomps can change the target of a Player’s night action.
  • wiksry -- Wik looks innocent, doesn’t she? She’s so nice and friendly! She always talks to the players! She always makes the ghost sub welcoming! She has smiley faces! How could such a sweetheart be evil? HA. Wiksry is actually a H.A.L.-esque spreadsheet who has coded herself to look non-threatening to the poor players, knowing she’ll be slitting their throats later. Wiksry will always show up as a Player when investigated.

The Scream Team

  • emsmale -- God, she’s the worst. Commonly recognized as The Worst Member of the Em Squad, she spends her days telling everyone to sell their memes and trying to cross stitch herself something resembling a heart (or, barring that, a functional intoxicated spell check). She is this game’s killer role. Every night, she goes out and kills someone.
  • pizzabangle -- Also known as Hell on Wheels and Luna Loveless, Peets has mastered the ability to earn money for literally just standing still while other people climb rocks. She’ll really only get off her ass if there is no one else left to do a job. When emsmale dies, a pizzabangle will randomly be chosen as the next killer.

The Others

  • Moostronus -- The thing about Moose is nobody can really stand to be around him for too long, despite the fact that he’s “surprisingly unsmelly.” He’s just as likely to be actually useful as he is to spend an hour talking your ear off about how really Black Panther is about Erik Killmonger, or about why efficient public transportation is the sexiest thing a city can have. Because he can’t shut up, he alternates between /Permagods and /ScreamTeam. He can only be in one subreddit at a time.
  • funkimo(o)n -- The man of one particularly transparent disguise, funkimoooon spends his time patrolling Game B and desperately wishing he were a part of the GlaMODzons. When funkimoooooooooon is attacked by emsmale, he will be added to /ScreamTeam and given the powers of pizzabangle. Nobody will know he is a GlaMODzon, including himself, until he is attacked. He will be given a different Player role at first.

The Players

  • andreaslordos -- We enjoy a good game of chess, Andreas. We hope you do too. But we can’t help but notice all the mockery potential in your... “volunteering for our roast”, if we can call it that. You see, you had to have known that we and our chicken nuggets would include your most memorable hubris in our game. Just like Brother Maynard, when andreaslordos is eliminated, he will count to 3 and lob the holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. But, ah, we don’t trust him after 6A. He’ll eliminate a player of our choice (whether his killer or one of the people voting for him) and bring them to the ghost sub with him. Oh, and Andreas? Checkmate.
  • a_sneaky_meerkat -- Meerkat is a moderator’s DREAM. She always has a good attitude, doesn’t get upset when she’s killed, and peppers the threads with amazing GIFs. The GlaMODzons can’t quite pull the trigger on killing her, so the first time they try to attack her, their action will fail.
  • bttfforever and Lucygirl9-17 -- The reigning Cutest Aggie Couple champions (and not just because there were no other contenders), Butt and Lucy could not play any more differently. Yet their Hufflehearts share an absolutely unbreakable bond, to the point where it was legitimately shocking to see them sign up for different games in April. Butt and Lucy are pair bonded. If one dies, the other dies. But don’t worry...they know each other’s identity.
  • bubblegumgills -- Honestly, if they had a choice between banning all memes forever and winning the game, the memes would be gone before they finished their first pint. As Werewolves’s proud, cranky elder (since game one!), they’re always willing to upset the apple cart in a Pyrrhic desire to instill the games with a Hermionean sense of decorum. If bubblegumgills is alive and a player posts “FIRST,” they have a 50% shot of dying that night.
  • dancingonfire -- The founder of the Church of Trying To Play Like Elbowsss For One Phase Then Reverting To Normal, Fire is learned enough to make a comprehensive spreadsheet and sensible enough to get it to serve her not-so-easy-to-conceal law and order instincts. Three times in the game, Fire can use her white and nerdy skillz to try and find a triangle-shaped gem in Game C. That gem: if she looks at a Game C player, she finds out their role, not just their affiliation.
  • flabbergasted_rhino -- Back when he was a wee rhino drifting through todash space, Rhino was given a role with this description: A Priest, such as Father Callahan, is your average doctor role. They are sworn to protect those aligned with them. Each Chapter, they summon the power of The Man Jesus, which allows them to choose one person and protect them from the Gunslingers' attacks. Choosing the same person twice in a row will carry unintended consequences. Rhino, that beautiful (and handsome!) bastard, chose the same person twice in a row...so you know what? We’re doing the exact same thing. Let’s see if he can deal with Man Jesus this time.
  • Icetoa180 -- Ice is the master of fooling people in masquerade games with hilariously bold disguises. The cloaking power of a simple flair change is 100 times more effective than thinking you’ll be hidden by spelling “you’re” wrong. Happily for all y’all, Ice is bringing #TransformationTuesday to HWWWW. Twice in the game, he can choose two users. If they’re both Players, their roles will be permanently swapped with each other.
  • Jilliefish -- Poor Jillie. It’s May, which means it’s time for the best seasonal sport in North America: finding Jillie suspicious for going to a Blue Jays game, and having her presence at aforementioned Blue Jays game render her unable to defend herself. So naturally, Jillie will always show up as a GlaMODzon when investigated.
  • kemistreekat -- Every game, no matter which role she’s assigned, kemkat sends a PM or posts a comment asking why she wasn’t given a villain role. Her commitment to the tradition is admirable, so because we’re dicks, we’ve decided to make her role a vanilla townie, armed with her lynch vote and only limited potential powers which will be revealed later in this post, because we want to force her to read more in order to find her full role. Oh man, she’s gonna be so pissed.
  • MacabreGoblin -- Men, women, non-binary individuals, and Beetlejuice impersonators from around the Werewolves universe are absolutely clamouring for a trip to Jeff’s Mac’s private island. Ever the seductress, Mac can use her Scheherazadian wiles to get unintended information out of her partners-in-chains. Every phase, Mac will choose a player. She will then get told their *current affiliation.*
  • Marx0r -- Marx0r is a master of seeing things that totally really 100% exist, whether the lyrical genius of Weird Al Yankovic, the entire Alpine Terror game being an anagram for Retro Alperin, or his own ear. He puts his reading skills to spectacular use in this one. Every four phases, Marx0r will receive a count of how many GlaMODzons are alive.
  • seanmik620 -- Sean, you had to know what we were going to mock for you. Sean has the unfortunate tendency of accidentally sending things which, no matter how desperately he wishes they were, are not actually innocent gifs to the GlaMODzon modmail. Three times in the game, Sean will send porn to another player and send them to Game C to cleanse. However, if he kills two Players, he will also die of shame and go to Game C.
  • TalkNerdyToMe20 -- Nerdy is the O.G. wall of text generator, able to write a legal treatise on everything from why nobody is trustworthy in any given game (when she’s good) to why nobody should trust literally anything ever (when she’s evil). Every phase, Nerdy can smack someone over the head with a wall of text. They’ll be too distracted reading it to perform their action.
  • tana-ryu -- Tana is our Werewolves den mother, always willing to lend a comforting ear whenever there’s a problem and reassure newbies that they’re in a safe place. As a result of this, nobody reeeeeeeally wants to lynch her. The first time the town lynches Tana, she will not die.

Game C, Part 2

Yay, you did it! You made it to this section! You read! So to all of you Gryffindor, Hufflepuffs, Slytherins, and Muggles, here’s the last bit of information.
Game C players will be competing to send items back to Game A. These items will be handed to kemistreekats. They will have to use them the phase they receive them, so they’re single use items. Consequences are not necessarily immediate. There will be no more than one challenge per phase, but the items may not necessarily come immediately. The items will have SECRET POWERS--only the recipient will know what they are, and will not be announced publicly. These SUPER SECRET POWERS could help or hurt their recipient.
REMEMBER WAY BACK WHEN WE ASKED IF YOU WANTED TO BE ROASTED IN THIS GAME? DON’T SEE YOUR NAME ON THE ROLES LIST? GET READY FOR SOME ROASTY ITEM FUN. Our fabulous gallery of Game C prizes are named after you! Play extra good in C and you could be the proud winner of a shiny new car CanadianSalmon! Or maybe receive a trendy stand mixer LoneWolfOfTheCalla! You get the idea. Item abilities may be duplicated, item names will be used once and once only. Who the items go to and which items will be delivered will be decided by the Game C players, and they’ll get full info on how that works.

Here are abilities which are 10000% OFF the table as consequences in terms of Game C.

  • silencing (because talking in Werewolves is cool)
  • permanent affiliation change as a result of a Game C item
  • vote cancellation or vote target changing
  • resurrection of already dead players and/or anything involving communicating with people already in the Ghost Sub
  • things contradicting our rules, or the sidebar rules

Here is a non-exhaustive list of consequences which are 100%, without a doubt, definitely possible

  • anything already existing as a consequence or boon in this game (that includes death, information/investigation, protection, action blocking/changing, role change, pair bonds, looking like the wrong affiliation)
  • messaging
  • generally messing with visitors (see: consequences)
  • pretty much everything seen as an item in Cats, Sherlock, or a Pigfarts spell is likely to be plagiarized honoured and respected by us
  • comment-based necessities, like having to comment a specific thing or specific amount of times (think Baby Mario or the Lazy Cat)
  • things which affect different players with different roles in different ways
  • things affecting vote totals
  • things moderately similar to what’s already been discussed, but ever so slightly different
  • things which are not listed as explicitly banned on the above list
Living players may get asked to answer weird questions during the game. They may be related to Game C. They also may be related to our own amusement. YOU’LL NEVER KNOW.

Rules and Other Info

Signups

Legit, read this before signing up.
  • Hard player cap of 40.
  • No undeclared alt accounts. You can declare it publicly as you and you can use it. Without it, no dice.
  • If you have received at least one non-game removal since the new rules went into effect (November 2017), you’re going to need to write a poem about yourself and send it to papaRNGesus372 in addition to going through the sign-up form if you want to get in on the game. Yes, we’re serious about this one. Poem does not need to be any specific style, but let it be known that a haiku is the coward’s way out. If you think a concrete poem in the shape of memeface would win us over, you’d probably be right.

Comment Rules

If you’re editing a comment, make it clear that it’s been edited and why it’s been edited. If you made an error, use strikethroughs on the information you want removed, but don’t delete it. If you want to add something, put it at the end what you’re adding. Do not share information, then immediately edit your comment to hide what you said from others. Never delete comments. Ever.
Comments should be in plain English and free of encryption, no matter how cool your secret exclamation point-based cipher is. Comments should be frequent and awesome. No signing up if you want to be silent pls.

Activity

You get an inactivity strike if you don’t vote in a given phase. You can see who did and didn’t vote by looking at the vote table; we won’t be sending PMs with that info, and the only reason for a blank beside your name is if your vote didn’t go through. Only your last vote will count, so nothing’s holding you back from putting in a placeholder and changing it later. Three strikes and you’ll be removed from the game.

Ghosts and Spectators

Only living players can post in the game threads. In hindsight, this was way too short of a point to need a new subject heading and probably should have been put somewhere else to save space.

Questions and Corrections

We’re going to answer questions about the game, obviously, but we reserve the right to not answer some, equally obviously. Even though we’re perfect in every way, there is a chance we will make mistakes with our game. If we need to send a correction PM, it will only be sent to the party in question at or around the phase turnover and will NOT be announced publicly.

Sidebar Rules

Yep, those are still a thing. Follow them all.

Ship Logs Customer Service Feedback Mockumentary Interviews Diary Entries Erotic Friend Fiction Confessionals

We’re calling them confessionals. Over the course of the game, we want to hear what you’re thinking about the events which are unfolding! That’s what our confessional form is for; talk about anything and everything that comes to mind which is at least tangentially related to /HWWWW. Nothing is off limits, but the confessionals will be revealed at the end of the game so don’t be tooooo much of a dick.

Sign up for this month’s games here! We've hit our player cap, but we are leaving signups open for 24 hours (until 7:00:00 PM PDT) to account for all time zones! See the comments for more info!

Timeline

  • Sign ups will close on Monday, April 30, at 3:00:00 PM EDT (UTC -4:00).
  • Confirmation PMs will be sent out that night on May 1, and the confirmation period will last until 10:00:00 PM EDT (UTC -4:00) on Tuesday, May 1 Wednesday, May 2.
  • Our Day Zero activity will begin at 10:00:00 PM EDT (UTC -4:00) on May 1 2 and last for 24 hours, along with each phase following.

Petu's Challenger Shen Guide with Detailed Matchups! (2017 Summer)

SELLOUT(?) EDIT: Guide is up on Solomid.net

Hey, /summonerschool
I'm Petu and I've been playing Shen since his rework in 2016. I hovered around MasteD1 last season and I’ve been Challenger for the whole of season 2017. In April, I was ranked as the best Shen in the world by League of Graphs. This is my third Shen guide and I’m hoping it’s going to be valid until the next season. The last chapter of the guide lists my personal tips on every single top lane matchup. You can use this guide before every game and CTRL+F the champion you’re playing against for a brief overview of the matchup.

Table of Contents

Pros and Cons Playstyle Abilities Runes Masteries Itemization Gameplay Tips Matchups

Pros and Cons:

Pros: Map pressure Playmaking potential Supportive capabilities Tank shredding Dueling
Cons: Requires great map-awareness No waveclear No built-in sustain Long ult cooldown

Playstyle:

Shen is the dictionary definition of a tank. If ahead, he can tank the enemy team 1v5 for an extended period of time due to his Ki Barrier and Spirit’s Refuge. But he also plays like a support, he can keep his carries alive by using his ultimate and positioning his Spirit Blade near his carries in teamfights. Shen is also an incredible powerful duelist against tanks due to the MaxHP% Damage on his Q and the constant passive shields. Shen can also initiate teamfights extremely well with a Taunt+Flash Combo. His dueling power and global ultimate (and teleport) make him an excellent split-pusher.

Abilities:

Passive – Ki Barrier Cooldown: 10 seconds
After using an ability, Shen shields himself from 50 - 101 (based on level) (+ 14% bonus health) damage for 2.5 seconds. If the triggering ability successfully affected at least one champion, Ki Barrier's cooldown is reduced by 4 - 7.5 (based on level) seconds. Shen's power manifests as a Spirit Blade that he can control with abilities.
Even after the passive nerfs, Ki Barrier is a strong ability. It allows him to trade better in lane and tank for longer in teamfights. It’s also great for surprising turnarounds – some people just never remember the shield. In theory, a level 18 Shen could keep his shield up 100% of the time in teamfights with proper use of his abilities.
Q – Twilight Assault Cost: 140-100 Energy Cooldown: 8-5 Seconds
Shen recalls his Spirit Blade to his location and empowers his next 3 basic attacks within 8 seconds to deal bonus magic damage. Enemies the blade collides with are slowed by 35% for the next 2 seconds when moving away from Shen. If the Spirit Blade collides with an enemy champion, the empowerment is enhanced, dealing bonus damage and gain 50% bonus attack speed. Empowered attacks against non-champions deal additional damage, but their damage is capped.
This is Shen’s main ability and it should be maxed out first. It gives him great damage, chase potential and easy passive procs. You should always try to keep your enemy between you and your Spirit Blade to maximize the damage output and amount of Ki Barriers. Mastering the use of your Spirit Blade is a major key to success with Shen. The tooltip doesn’t mention this, but Twilight Assault increases your Autoattack range to 200. This can be useful in many situations. It’s very important to use all three of your empowered basic attacks to get Energy back (Shadow Dash Passive) or you’ll find yourself running out of Energy.
W – Spirit’s Refuge Cost: 40 Energy Cooldown: 18-12 Seconds
Shen primes his Spirit Blade for 2 seconds, causing it to project a protective zone around it for 1.75 seconds if he or an allied champion move nearby, causing allies in the zone to dodge attacks.
Spirit’s Refuge might seem like a lackluster ability, but a good W on your carries in a teamfight can mitigate so much damage that it could turn the whole fight around. Your W is good against champions like Renekton, Camille, Mordekaiser etc. because their trading patterns involve an autoattack enhancer. Rank 1 Spirit’s Refuge has a 18 second cooldown, so opponents can punish you if you waste it. Using your W correctly in teamfights can be tricky sometimes as you might have to leave your Spirit Blade near your carries and avoid using your Q. Spirit’s Refuge blocks Jungle Monster basic attacks including Rift Herald and even Baron Nashor but not the Dragon!
E – Shadow Dash Cost: 150 Energy Cooldown: 18-10 Seconds Range: 600
PASSIVE: Shadow Dash's and Twilight Assault's damage recovers 30 / 35 / 40 Energy.
ACTIVE: Shen dashes in the target direction, dealing physical damage to all enemy champions and monsters he hits and taunting them for 1.5 seconds.
Shadow Dash, Shen’s most iconic ability after his Ultimate. This is Shen’s playmaking tool and one of the reasons I play him. Taunt is an extremely powerful form of Crowd Control; It allows you to protect your teammates and pick off enemies. It’s also really good if you’re getting pushed to your tower in lane because taunting someone gives them tower aggro. The threat of Taunt allows you to CS safer undertower. Similar to his W, Shen’s E has a long cooldown which can be abused by smart opponents. Shadow Dash can be combined with Flash to change the direction or extend it’s range. This allows Shen to pull of amazing multi-man taunts in teamfights or when getting ganked. Missing your taunt can lead to lost trades or teamfights.
Ultimate – Stand United Cooldown: 200/180/160
Shen channels for 3 seconds, shielding the target allied champion for up to 5 seconds. The shield scales based on the target’s missing health. (Max value at 40% HP) Upon completing the channel, Shen and his Spirit Blade blink to the target ally’s location.
And here we have the reason why we pick Shen: his ultimate, Stand United. Stand United is such a powerful ability, it allows you to split-push without leaving your team in danger. Shen’s Ultimate combined with Teleport gives him more global pressure than any other champion in the game. If you have a Twitch (stealth) or a Zac (gap-closer) in your team, you can use Stand United to engage sneaky ganks and catch your opponents completely off guard. Stand United’s cooldown is extremely long and wasting it can set you behind by a lot. The more you play Shen the easier it becomes to quickly judge whether or not an ultimate is worth it.

Runes:

Standard: VS. AD VS. AP Budget VS. All
Experimental: 30 CDR @ 18 Aggro VS. AD Aggro VS. AP
There is no clear consensus on what the optimal rune page for Shen is. Choosing your runes comes down to preference mostly. The two pages at the top are the only ones I use and need to play Shen. Different Shen players prefer different runes, but almost everyone uses attack speed marks and health seals. The rest comes is up to you. If you’re skeptical about the HP regen quints you can substitute them for Armor or Health. Personally, I’ve found much more success with the added sustain that the regen runes provide. If you’re new to Shen I would advise you to use the budget page.

Masteries:

Standard Alternative
Shen uses Grasp of the Undying as his Keystone. Fervor and Courage of the Colossus were options in the past, but in my opinion Grasp is the clear winner. There are interesting options in tier 4 of the the Resolve tree. All of them are good but right now I prefer Fearless because it’s a very strong mastery and makes your laning phase safer. The first mastery page is what I use in all of my games. The “Alternative” page was shown to me by Riddler Shen. He likes taking short trades often and abuses the damage of Grasp and Fresh Blood in combination with Assassin.

Choose your starting items based on the enemy laner and the difficulty of the matchup. Doran’s Shield is a good option versus any champion and you can’t really go wrong with it. Ruby Crystal + 2 Pots used to be my favorite start but the new DShield is probably outright better. Triple Bead start feels really good, but fills your inventory, which can be quite annoying. Cloth armor and 1 Rejuvination Bead might be my new favorite start. It gives you armor and sustain and allows you to get your items faster than the other options.
First back:
Pick up one of these on your first back. If you can’t afford one, buy components like Ruby Crystal, Cloth Armor and Boots of Speed. You should always have one control ward on the map, so buy one on your first back aswell. Buying a refillable potion on your first back is also very efficient and allows you to have those 2 potions whenever you need them.
Core:
Shen’s core build consists of one waveclear item, tank boots of your choice and a tank item of your choice.
Defensive Items: Shen can build any tank item in the game that doesn’t give mana. Your build should vary from game to game depending on the enemy team composition.
Offensive Options:
Never build more than one offensive item on Shen. Nashor’s Tooth is a fun item but doesn’t offer any survivability, so I would advise you not to build it unless super fed or in a normal game. Titanic Hydra should be your go-to offensive option in 90% of games.
Supportive Options:
If you have a fed carry on your team, you should build one of these as a third item. Locket now scales with your Bonus HP, making it extremely powerful in late game teamfights.

Gameplay Tips:

Matchups:

Aatrox – Easy Block his 3rd hit with W. Never trade when he is close to 5 stacks. Be aware of his revive passive and don’t dive him carelessly.
Akali – Medium Block her Q-AA with W. Sunfire cape lets you see her in her shroud. She can kill you level 6 with 2 or 3 ult stacks. If Akali doesn’t snowball with kills she’ll be useless in the late game.
Camille – Medium Always (try to) dodge her E, Camille’s W is often easy to dodge by moving towards her, Block her second Q with W. Camille is exceptionally good at setting up ganks due to his E and Ultimate, so you have to be very careful when pushing against her.
Cho’Gath – Medium You lose short trades, Shadow dash out of his Q, try to predict when he will ult and block some of it with your passive shield.
Darius – Hard Darius has kill pressure on you from levels 1-3 but you can try to trade with him levels 4-5, Block his AA-W with your W and move/dash to him when he Qs to deny the heal. Shen can’t duel Darius in the late game because of his passive and true damage ult. In teamfights try to peel for your carries and deny Darius from getting the reset on his ult.
Dr. Mundo – Easy Unlosable matchup, dodge as many Qs as you can and block his E with your W.
Ekko – Easy He has good waveclear, but can’t kill you. Dodge his Q and W his Dash-AA.
Fiora – Hard You can fight her early, but she will always beat you in a 1v1 unless you’re super far ahead. If you get a gank, you have to taunt-flash her or otherwise she will parry your taunt. Try to deny her Ultimate heal by blocking the vital procs with your W and then walking next to a wall.
Fizz – Medium Most of Fizz’ damage comes from his W so you have to block it. Always try to dodge or dash his ultimate. Avoid fighting him in the early game.
Galio – Hard Galio destroys Shen is every aspect. He beats you in waveclear and can match your ult with his ult/tp. The only way to win this matchup is by getting a gank early and snowballing. He outscales you aswell.
Gangplank – Hard You have to bully or kill GP level 1-4 or you lose the matchup completely. Set up your spirit blade behind his creeps for a level 1 trade and deny minions from him. If he has a barrel up, dash in and taunt him and immediately kill the barrel to win the trade. Wait for him to Orange your taunt before Q-slowing him. Don’t be afraid to use W or your passive whenever it is up to block his Q poke.
Garen – Easy Block his Q with your W and you basically won the lane.
Gnar – Hard Gnar can constantly harass you and kite you later with frozen mallet. Try to get as much farm as you can while staying healthy. Look for ults and win the game through global pressure. You can use W to prevent him from proccing Hyper.
Gragas – Medium Don’t E before he uses body slam. Block his W with your W. Don’t ult near him because he will either E you or R you to cancel it.
Heimerdinger – Hard Stressful matchup because you have to consistently dodge his Rockets and Grenades. Your W blocks turret autos (even his R-Turret) so use it to trade with him in his turrets. Once you get through the laning phase he can’t win you 1v1. If you ult bot at a bad time you’re most likely going to lose your tower.
Illaoi – Hard Playing against an Illaoi is like a minigame where you have to dodge her E and tentacle attacks. If she hits her E you dash out of range. If she misses her E you dash in and take a short trade. When she ults you dash out and reengage when the ult is over.
Irelia – Medium Use your W right before she stuns you and then dash in to trade. You can beat her in a 1v1 if you’re even. Not a very mechanical matchup.
Jarvan IV – Medium I haven’t had enough experience in this matchup to judge it accurately but it seems like the matchup is pretty even. You can block his passive AA with W. If he misses his E-Q you can punish him with a taunt into extended trade. If you’re getting ganked be sure to save either your taunt or flash to get away from his ult.
Jax – Medium He wins level 1, after that you’re even until the late game. When Jax activates his E, you should wait a bit and then Taunt through him to dodge the stun and force him to follow you. Then you drag your spirit blade through him and use the empowered autoattacks to win the trade. Don’t even think about dueling him in the lategame, he is Jax!
Jayce – Hard Great Jayce players are a pain the ass for any melee top laner, even more so for Shen because he doesn’t have any ranged abilities or waveclear. The constant autoattack harass can be tilting, but you should remain calm and try to get any cs you can. Landing a taunt doesn’t guarantee a good trade: Stormraider’s Jayce will E-Q after the taunt and chase you with autoattacks. Pick your trades carefully and you will eventually outscale him. Try to save your W for his Cannon W or first melee attack (bonus damage).
Kennen – Hard Kennen is very similar to Jayce. Get as much cs as you can while staying healthy. Pay attention to his W stacks and block the empowered autoattack with your W. If he uses E to waveclear you can get a good trade or even kill him with a taunt into Q.
Kayle – Hard Another ranged lanebully (man I hate top lane sometimes). Kayle does a lot of damage, but she’s easy to gank. If you land a taunt she’s screwed. Kayle scales super well so be careful about 1v1ing her in late. You can protect your carries from her with your W and Taunt.
Kled – Medium His Q is a pretty slow skillshot and it’s relatively easy to dodge from max range. If he has W up, let him get 1 aa on you and then use W to block the 3 remaining attacks. Don’t wait too long before using E to escape his Q because it will interrupt your dash. Kled’s roams are really telegraphed so you have more than enough time to ult wherever he’s ulting.
Lissandra – Hard Lissandra isn’t played at all this season so I don’t have much experience vs her. She has harass, waveclear and crowdcontrol to stop your ult. Your W is practically useless vs her so I would wait until level 4 or 5 to level it up. You can stop her from teleporting to her claw with a welltimed taunt.
Malphite – Easy Malphite’s kit is so binary that there’s not many tips I can give you. You beat him at all stages of the game and his only way of stopping your ult is his ult. Losing to a malphite in lane is practically impossible.
Maokai – Medium You beat him early but lategame his passive heals become way too big and you can’t kill him solo. Your W doesn’t stop his passive heal (even though it should). He can interrupt your dash with his Q so you should wait before using it. If you get a lead you should play really aggressive and stop him from getting to late game.
Mordekaiser – Easy Mordekaiser is useless if he’s behind but if he gets ahead of you he’s going to be a big problem. You should block his third Q with your W. Mordekaiser has no escapes so ganking him is super easy. Ask your jungler to gank top and snowball your lead to other lanes with your Ult.
Nasus – Easy Nasus is weak in the early game and you can bully him. Try to prevent him from getting free Q stacks. Blocking his Q in trades is very important. Your TPs and ults are much more impactful than his. Post-6 try to bait him into using his ultimate and then disengage. Once his ult is down he has no way of beating you.
Nautilus – Medium Nautilus does a surprising amount of damage with his E in the early game. You can block his rooting autoattack and W hits with your W. When running away from him try to wait until he hooks and then dash away. If you dash first he can interrupt it with his hook. If he’s diving you activate your W just as his ult hits you.
Olaf – Hard Olaf is rarely seen in the top lane nowadays, but he’s one of hardest matchups for Shen. He can chase you forever with his Q and you can’t taunt him because of his ult. Olaf falls off pretty hard in the late game. He has no way of stopping your ult so you can escape with it if necessary.
Pantheon – Hard Pantheon, the bane of all top laners. Pantheon is an extremely dominant lane bully for the first 10 minutes of the game. His constant Q spam will eventually result in a kill if the opposing player doesn’t know how to play against it. You have to play extremely safe in the early game vs a Pantheon (even more so if he has ignite). Let his first Q hit you without blocking it, this will proc the Doran’s shield regen. Block his second Q with your passive shield and after that keep on using your passive whenever you can. If you dash at him early you will die. Get as much cs as you can and stay healthy because he can burst you to death from ~50% HP. Pantheon falls off extremely hard in the late game so you can most likely duel him around level 14. Be ready to ult where he is ulting! If you get your jungler to gank top, keep in mind that he can use his ult to escape the gank if you use all your hard cc right away. His passive shield blocks your Q bonus damage. You can interrupt his E with your taunt.
Poppy – Easy Poppy hasn’t seen much play since the nerfs. He doesn’t have kill pressure on you and you outduel her at all stages of the game. Don’t dash on her before she uses her W. You can stop her ult channel with a taunt if you’re quick enough. Always walk out of the second part of her Q.
Quinn – Medium Quinn is annoying like any other ranged top laner, but Shen has the tools to deal with her. If you get marked by her passive or she’s dashing on you, be ready to activate W. Quinn’s damage comes from her passive and blocking it will result in you winning almost any trade. Quinn can interrupt your dash with her E knockback so wait for a good oppurtunity before dashing towards her. You can match her ult roams with your ultimate. Quinn wins games by picking off lonely carries, but you as Shen can completely stop her from doing just that.
Renekton – Medium Renekton is a lanebully, but Shen is one of the best counters to him. This matchup requires experience but once you get used to Renekton’s trade pattern you can win him in lane. With enough experience you’ll block every stun which will stop him from getting fervor stacks. If you block the stun you’ll win the trade every time. Renekton’s ult is similar to Nasus’: You want to bait it out, disengage and then reengage.
Rengar – Medium Good Rengar players are scary because they have so many options and know which one to choose at all times. Some Rengars cheese by taking either small wolves or raptors before coming to lane and try to kill you on the first wave by hitting level 2 (thanks dekar). You can trade with Rengar when he’s just used his empowered ability. This will guarantee that he can’t cleanse your taunt. If Rengar ults to jump on you, use W when he’s mid-air to block the guaranteed crit. If he has a combat summoner spell (Exh or Ign) don’t even bother trying to fight him.
Riven – Medium Riven is difficult to chase or get away from, but a good taunt will turn any fight in your favor. When you see Riven dashing towards you be ready to activate W before she stuns you. This will deny her from getting fervor stacks (if she has fervor) and using her passive efficiently. In extended fights try to dash ’under’ her 3rd Q to dodge the knockup. The outcome of this matchup is heavily influenced by the skill of the riven player. Under high diamond Shen should win it most of the time.
Rumble – Easy This matchup used to be much harder but the new Doran’s shield just destroys Rumble completely. You can play very aggressive against a Rumble if you keep your ward coverage up. Save your W for when he overheats and block the bonus damage autoattacks. Post-6 keep your dash because you need it to escape his ultimate. Rumble players are used to being the bullies and playing aggressive against them can work surprisingly well.
Singed – He probably won’t be in lane anyways Honestly, I haven’t played versus a Singed in ranked this season. My only tip is to not chase him.
Sion – Medium There are two different common Sion builds: Tank and Full AD. Shen performs better versus the tank variant, but can handle AD Sion aswell. When you see Sion charge his Q IMMEDIATELY dash at him (Unless you want to escape ofc). If you dash quick enough he can’t knock you up and you will interrupt the channel. After that just stay close to him and chase him with Qs. Sion’s ult is easy to dodge by moving and even more so with a dash. The only way you lose to a Sion is if you take a fully charged Q to the face. Sion players like to Q in bushes because you won’t see the range indicator. Just keep this in mind and don’t get hit by his Q.
Swain – Hard Seeing Swain in champ select makes me want to not play Shen. The matchup is absolutely terrible and you have no way of beating him without jungle assistance. Your W is almost useless versus Swain and he will beat you in extended trades due to his ultimate. If you dash in he will root you and then you take a full duration E-Q to the face while he walks away. The only oppurtunity you have on him is level 2 if he uses his cooldowns to clear the wave. The best tip I can give is either dodge or pick another champion.
Tahm Kench – Medium Tahm Kench is a tank that deals a surprising amount of damage, similar to Shen. You beat him by not letting him get 3 passive stacks on you. Your W is very important. Use it when your think he wants to go for a trade. If he can’t get his stacks on you he has no way of winning the trade. You outscale him pretty hard and your ultimate is way better than his. If you get a good trade don’t be afraid to keep chasing him until he uses his E. That’s when you back off (now he doesn’t get to heal through the grey health).
Teemo – Medium Teemo will harass you pretty hard in the early game, like any ranged top laner. You can’t win short trades vs him because of his blind. However, extended fights fall in to your favor. Most Teemos build like an AD Kennen: Frozen Mallet and attack speed items. If you miss your taunt he can chase you down and kill you, so wait for the perfect opportunity before using your E.
Trundle – Easy Trundle is generally the counter to tanks, but Shen’s kit functions well against this troll. Blocking Trundle’s chomp with your W allows you to get good damage on to him without taking any in return. Good Trundle players will stop your dash with their pillar. Get a feel for your opponent and you’ll see if he can do this consistently. Trundle’s ult is extremely strong vs any tank and I would advise you not to duel him when he uses it.
Tryndamere – Medium Tryndamere feels very oppressive, but beating him is possible. Tryndamere with a full rage bar is one of the strongest early game champions. Tryndamere with no rage is one of the weakest. The key to beating tryndamere is playing aggressive from the start, you can’t let him hit minions for free and build up that rage bar. Zone him with your Q from level 1 and force him to use his rage to heal instead of fighting you. If Tryndamere gets ahead you’re in for a train of pain. He can dive extremely well with his ultimate and is hard to stop from snowballing.
Urgot – Medium Urgot is a lane bully like most ranged champions. His Qs can’t be blocked by your W unlike Ezreal’s. Urgot’s most important ability is his E. You should always dodge it by moving or by dashing. If he hits his E he’s going to get atleast 3 Qs on you for free. Urgot has no escape so ganking him is extremely easy, especially pre-6. Try to get your jungler to gank him and enjoy a free lane. Once you’re ahead he can’t fight you.
Vladimir – Hard Vladimir is super annoying to deal with. He can poke you until the end of the world because he doesn’t have mana. He heals any damage you deal to him in lane and escapes ganks with his blood pool. He’s very similar to Swain, one of the champions I would either pick another champion against or dodge. If the Vladimir is bad you might get a taunt on him and kill him. If you get a lead you can start bullying him and denying him gold and experience.
Wukong – Easy Wukong has been out of the meta for a long time, so people seem to have forgotten how strong is level 2 and level 3 are. However, he’s not a problem for Shen. When he dashes to trade, you can pop your W, block his Q and then taunt him. His trading pattern is simple and you can hit a taunt 100% of the time when he dashes to you. Beating him should not be a challenge.
Yasuo – Medium Yasuo players have extreme variety in skill. Beating a Yasuo with Shen is easy, unless the yasuo knows how to play against you. Yasuo can block your Spirit Blade with his wind wall, denying your empower autoattacks. This cripples Shen completely and allows the Yasuo to destroy you. Bypassing this is pretty simple: you have to hit your taunt! When he’s taunted you can freely Q through him without a fear of him stopping the blade with his wind wall. After he’s slowed by your Q you can hit him 3 times and back off. Yasuo’s ult gives him a huge bonus armor penetration, so dodging the tornado is extremely important, especially in late game duels. Shen’s W blocks Yasuo’s Q. The tornado is only blocked by it if you’re the first target getting hit by it.
Yorick – Easy Yorick is very easy to deal with as Shen. Most of his damage comes from his Q and his ghouls. Both of those are blocked by your W. He has no movement abilities so you can hit your taunt without much effort. Always wait for him to summon his ghouls before you use your W. If you get caught in his trap after you’ve wasted your E and W you’ll get chunked or killed. Smart usage of your W wins this matchup completely by itself. Lategame he has no chance of dueling you. Once you get a Titanic hydra you can oneshot his ghouls with the cone attack.

TL;DR:

Splitpush and ult when team is fighting
If you follow all these steps this will pop up in your client.
In all seriousness, I would appreciate if you read the guide and gave me feedback. I’m trying to share my knowledge of the champ as well as I can! You can talk to me about Shen in the comments, the shen main discord channel or my youtube channel. I’m not sure why I use my free time writing >5000 word guides about virtual ninjas

Petu's Challenger Shen Guide with Detailed Matchups (Summer 2017)

Hey, /shen

Itemization:

Starting Items:

TL;DR:

Runes
Masteries
Skill Order: R > Q > E > W
Build tank items
Splitpush and ult when team is fighting
If you follow all these steps this will pop up in your client.
In all seriousness, I would appreciate if you read the guide and gave me feedback. I’m trying to share my knowledge of the champ as well as I can! You can talk to me about Shen in the comments, the shen main discord channel or my youtube channel. I’m not sure why I use my free time writing >5000 word guides about virtual ninjas

Tormuse's DDLC mod review post

Hi everyone! :)
These days, there are quite a lot of mods for Doki Doki Literature Club and it can be tough to decide which one to play... So I decided to take it upon myself to go through each mod, one by one, to give my own spoiler-free (as much as possible) reviews of them! :D I might live to regret this decision, but I thought it would be nice to have reviews of everything in one place and I'll do my best to say positive and negative things about each one. I've only gone through a few of the mods so far, but I'll work on this list over time and edit it to add more in. Anyone who wants to post their own reviews can feel free to do so in the comments. (You're welcome to disagree with my reviews down there too if you like; in any case, remember to be nice and tag spoilers)
EDIT: Unfortunately, there appears to be a character limit on this post, so I can't write all my reviews here! :( I'll continue down below in the comments instead.

Doki Doki Sandwich Club by FailSandwich
This mod replaces the in-game music with music from Super Mario games and replaces some of the graphics with images from and references to Super Mario games. There are no script or gameplay changes; it's just the original DDLC with a few cosmetic changes. It's sure to amuse Mario fans, but other than that, there isn't much to say about it.

Doki Doki Literature Club: Another Moment With You by Guardian_Bravo
Trigger warning for depression and suicide. A mod that re-imagines Act 1 of DDLC without a self-aware Monika or any of the Act 2 shenanigans. This is part one of what promises to be a four part series that's going to be released episodically, one part for each of the girls. This part, entitled "Bundle of Sunshine," has most of its focus on Sayori, but has some hints of a new backstory for Monika as well.
The mod largely mirrors the original Act 1, but with minor differences in characters and dialogue, including a somewhat less dense MC. Much of it feels like a retread of the original, but there are enough interesting new details added here and there to keep it interesting. Also, since this episode focuses on Sayori, it obviously deals fairly heavily with her depression, so be prepared for a bit of a feels train.

Focus On Me by NitrosGaming
Trigger warnings for Suicide, self-harm, domestic abuse, and lots of jump scares. This mod is short, (having a very abrupt end in the middle of a random conversation) but is utterly incoherent from beginning to end. I can't figure out what the plot is or what the author intended any of this to mean. It starts out strong, with some nice intro music and custom graphics on the menu screen, then when you start, it talks about the events of DDLC, criticizing the main character for not helping the girls with each of their respective issues that they're dealing with... and after that, everything just gets bizarre.
The action jumps around from scene to scene without giving the audience time to figure out what's happening and very little of it makes sense, with frequent jump scares thrown in at seemingly random intervals. People not only act out of character, but they don't act like human beings, and in fact, don't act with any sense of basic logic at all. There's a scene which I think is supposed to be an argument, but it's more like people spewing random sentences that don't seem to have any connection with each other and then it asks you to make a choice of who you're siding with, and I couldn't figure out what the argument was or who was on what side.
It's also buggy as hell, with characters appearing and disappearing or shifting around or overlapping each other at odd times, scenes where characters are speaking lines that look like they were supposed to be internal monologue, and at one point, an image that failed to load with an error message flashing on the screen, and another point where a poem randomly appeared on screen in the middle of a conversation and then everyone continued like nothing happened. It doesn't help that there are tons of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, with shifts between present and past tense and between first and second person. (Also, lots of British slang and terminology, but that's fine; it made me smile when Sayori told MC that he walks "well quick") :)

MonikAI by PiMaker101
Not exactly a mod, but a nice app for all the Monikans out there. :) This app puts an image of Monika on your Windows desktop in her pose from her room in Act 3 of DDLC. She has a variety of facial expressions and she talks to you in a little text box underneath her, reacting to things you do on your computer in real time.
She has reactions to a variety of apps, programs, and webpages... I haven't tested them exhaustively, but I know, at the very least, she responds to Steam, Firefox, Notepad, Ren'Py, Task Manager, DDLC, Youtube, Facebook, Wikipedia, Google maps, Reddit, the DDMC subreddit, Netflix, and I'm sure many more. (She even has a custom message if you're playing the Doki Doki Rainclouds mod, which I thought is a nice touch) :)
You can bring up an options menu by pushing Ctrl-Shift-F10. (I mention that here, because it isn't well notated and you might miss out on a lot of features otherwise) You can re-size and reposition Monika, (in case you want her in the corner while you work) alter her brightness, and select the frequency that she makes idle conversation. Her image sits on top of every window you have open, but becomes translucent if you mouse over her so she won't get in the way of anything you're doing. She disappears if you play any full-screen game, though.
It's an overall, solidly constructed app, but unfortunately, she presently doesn't have a whole lot of idle dialogue in her program and it doesn't take her long to start repeating herself. Still, she's a work in progress and the MonikAI Discord server (link within the above link) accepts suggestions if anyone wants more dialogue to be added... Though this has the added consequence that her tone sometimes changes based on who wrote her dialogue; it still mostly feels like Monika, but there are occasional strange lines like the one for Youtube which includes the phrase, "let's just try not to get to the weird side..." I get what she's trying to say, but it's a weird turn of phrase that doesn't sound like Monika to me.

Doki Doki Weatheard World by Calentar-Games-Dev
Trigger warnings for suicide, self-harm, and domestic abuse. I'm at a bit of a loss of how to review this mod because it ranges from bizarre to incoherent. On the surface, it takes place after DDLC's Act 3, only this time, Monika has decided to restore everybody, including herself, and restart the game where you and she get to retain your knowledge of everything that happened in Act 1 and 2, and you get a lot of extra choices in dialogue and stuff like that. It's a fine premise to start from; so far, so good. Some people act a bit out of character, (like Natsuki and Yuri are eager to share poems this time) but that's easily forgiven, since this is a mod and the author is free to do their own re-interpretation of the characters.
But then things get weird... And I don't mean the good kind of weird. Strange dialogue gets seemingly randomly spliced in places it doesn't seem to belong. At one point, MC was talking to Sayori casually and suddenly, out of the blue, he confessed that he loved her and the dialogue from Sayori's love confession scene from the original DDLC was awkwardly copy/pasted in, complete with the CG of Sayori in her pink shirt, hugging MC, even though she's in her uniform before and after the CG. It makes no sense whatsoever, and after that, they carry on talking casually like nothing happened and no reference to them confessing their feelings is ever talked about again.
And things got weirder after that... The whole last half of the game is utterly, utterly incoherent with scenes and dialogue thrown slap-dash together, including death scenes of the girls, seemingly randomly. None of it makes any sense, and it ended with a message from the mod author saying that I got the "bad ending." I still can't make sense of it, since none of the options I had seemed to have any connection to anything that was happening, but just for the heck of it, I restarted and tried completely different options every step of the way and I was still treated to the weird, incoherent series of scenes and told again that I got the "bad" ending.
It's so nonsensical that now, I honestly can't tell if that weirdly out-of-place love confession scene was intentional or not. It doesn't help that there are quite a few grammatical errors in the mod, with weird switching between first, second, and third person in the internal monologue, not to mention switches between present and past tense that are hard enough to interpret at the best of times, but when things start going nuts, I can not, for the life of me, figure out what the author meant to say. I mean... I can see that the authors put a lot of work into this mod, so maybe this just shows that I don't "get" their artistic vision or something, but this whole thing just left me confused and unsatisfied.

Doki Heika Banzai by chankamaster
Trigger warnings for... everything! :o I have to imagine that when the author of this mod was planning it, they had a checklist labeled "How to be as offensive as possible." :P It is a joke mod in an alternate timeline where the Literature Club is set in 1945 Japan at the end of World War 2. It includes jokes about suicide, self-harm, physical abuse, rape, necrophilia, and PTSD, and jokes that are racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, and ableist. It also includes a lot of glorification of Nazis, Hitler, and other Axis powers. (For example, the main character wears a shirt with a Swastika and the words "Just Aryans" on it and Yuri is seen holding a copy of Mein Kampf) Speaking for myself, it made me super uncomfortable to play through this and made me regret my decision to review every DDLC mod, but I'm pretty sure that this is the author's intent, so... mission accomplished, I guess? :P Features plenty of WW2-themed art and music and new sound effects.
At this point, I could probably just end the review... I'm tempted to drift into meta commentary about the state of society which might not be appropriate in the context of a video game mod review, but then again, this is my review and I can write what I want, so here goes... :)
I'm not a fan of censorship. I think people should be able to say or create whatever they want, and I can see that a lot of effort went into the making of this mod, so I can respect it as a creative work and I know that plenty of people will enjoy it and not have any of the problems that I had playing it. I know that people are probably about to make fun of me for saying it made me uncomfortable or defend it by saying that they are "just jokes" that aren't meant to be taken seriously. That being said, glorifying Nazis doesn't sit well with me, even as a joke, because their existence is based on blind hatred that got millions of people killed for no reason and there are still plenty of people today, walking among us, some of whom are in positions of power, who still think like that and would like to see millions more people killed. Frankly, the idea of such people enjoying and laughing at this mod turns my stomach enough that I decided I couldn't let it pass without comment.
As for the rest of the jokes, again, you can say what you want; I recognize that humour is subjective and it is normal for different people to find different things funny... but I kind of feel that when 90+% of your humour is based on hurting people who are already hurting, then it might be time to rethink some of your life choices. (Erm... I mean that in the nicest way possible) :) The world is a big place and there's enough happiness for everyone; you don't need to find your happiness from bullying people. So... yeah... I'll get off my soapbox now. I just want everyone to make an informed choice about what kinds of media they enjoy. :)

Dokis and Dragons by Papo_Swing
The Literature Club has been replaced by a Role-Playing Game Club! Join the girls on a quest to rid the land of the goblin menace, but be careful, for not all is what it seems! :D
A fun little mod that simultaneously makes fun of role-playing tropes and DDLC, probably best appreciated by people who play Dungeons and Dragons and similar games. Personally, I've only played D&D once and it was a very long time ago, but I was still able to get most of the jokes and really appreciate the tongue-in-cheek nerdy humour throughout. It's a bit short, but there's a lot packed into it, with lots of in-game choices and some randomness to keep you guessing.
I particularly like how each of the in-game characters match the Doki that they're based on, like Sayori's character interrogating a goblin by tickling him, Natsuki's character being hyper aggressive and always ready to kick ass, and Yuri's character just repeatedly getting lost in her imagination any time her mind wanders.
It is possible to die, so don't take for granted that Monika, the game master, will go easy on you, but fortunately, you seem to be able to save and load as many times as you want, so you should be able to achieve one of the mod's multiple endings easily enough.

Doki Doki Rainclouds by paulchartres, AKA Cykadev
Trigger warnings for detailed portrayal of depression and suicide. This is DDLC from Sayori's point of view. This mod is all about Sayori's journey through depression, and is basically all sad all the time. Remember to take care of yourself while playing this mod so you have a safe experience. Personally, I was only able to get through it by doing it bits at a time.
This mod is absolutely dripping with atmosphere. It's got tons of new art and new music and is full of atmospheric effects like altering of familiar backgrounds and songs to help convey the heavy emotions of the story. Even the title screen may make you instantly feel sad as soon as you witness it. It also has creepy nightmarish sequences complete with jump scares, so be prepared!
This mod shines the most during the scenes where Sayori is alone. Her internal monologue reflects the stream of consciousness of the mind of a depressed person very well and I can only imagine that this must have been a deeply personal (and probably really hard to write) project for Cykadev. It also has some nice scenes where Sayori is alone with her other clubmembers outside of the club. (Something you don't really see in vanilla DDLC) I'm particularly fond of the one with Yuri. (I may be biased in that Yuri is my favourite Doki, but it's seriously a really sweet scene) :)
It is not perfect, though. It integrates dialogue from vanilla DDLC into its story with varying degrees of success and often feels clunky and repetitive during those scenes. A lot of those scenes go back and forth, line by line, between the original dialogue lines and Sayori's internal monologue reacting to that line, which is a fine idea in itself, but it actually starts to get tedious in some places, because the story loses momentum and sense of narrative flow as it sort of stalls every second line. I personally feel that there were a number of missed opportunities to connect the internal monologue lines together to make it flow better as a cohesive story. It also doesn't help that a few of Sayori's internal lines contradict each other. It's fine to change up the canon a bit; any good mod should do that, but it should at least be internally consistent.

Doki Doki Do You Lift Club! by paulchartres, AKA Cykadev
Trigger warning for jump scares, complete list of them in spoiler tags: Three of them; The first time Yuronk shows you her "move," it jumps to the extreme close-up creepy-eyed Yuri from DDLC Act 2... At the end of the second day, there's a nightmare scene that includes Sayori's dead, hanging body and broken-necked Natsuki... At the festival, Monicules announces that she's doing a dubstep performance; the song she plays is ear-bleedingly loud, guaranteed to destroy headphones and ear drums; make sure to turn your sound down at that part.
This is a joke mod that is relentlessly silly and does not remotely take itself seriously. (It's a little amazing to me that this is made by the same author as Rainclouds!) The Literature Club has been replaced by a "Lifting" Club for working out and the girls have been replaced by hyper-muscular versions of themselves. So the club is trying to prepare a lifting demonstration for the festival and it's your goal to impress the girls with your "sick moves" instead of with poetry.
Personally, I felt that some of the jokes got a bit repetitive, but it was still entertaining enough to see these bizarre caricatures of the girls interact with each other, including... Slavyori, the vodka-drinking, squatting best friend; Buffsuki, who talks in third person and you won't like her when she's angry; Yuronk, shy, but lifts with passion and has a fondness for pens; and Monicules, with her amazing thighs and sizeable ego. Obviously, there's a lot of new graphics in this mod, including new sprites for all the girls, and some new backgrounds, and there are a few new songs, including a pretty cool remix of Your Reality.
I did feel that the jump scares were weirdly out of place with the silly, goofy tone of the rest of the mod, especially the nightmare one, but I guess that's just part of Cykadev's sense of humour. (Or maybe he was warming up for Rainclouds) :) I feel I should also mention that there are a smattering of grammar and spelling errors that were mostly easily ignored, but did trip me up a few times when I wasn't sure what was meant, including a part where the Main Character takes Yuronk and Buffsuki aside but addresses them as Yuronk and Monicules, which made me momentarily confused about who he was talking to and why... so the mod could have used a bit more proof-reading, but it didn't detract too much from the overall enjoyment of it.

Doki Doki Easter Hunt by EVM02
A very short mod that specifically takes place during this year's Easter, April 1, 2018. The 5 members of the Literature Club take part in a school Easter Egg hunting event. The story starts light-hearted and fun (with Wholesome Sayori interaction) and then later, during the hunt, takes a dark turn. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes to play, so there really isn't much for me to say about it except it's got a few new backgrounds added for the hunt.

Doki Doki Just Monika Club by 15LarueA
I don't wish to be mean to the author of this mod. I really don't. I would much rather foster a spirit of encouragement for new mod authors... That being said, the only way I can see to enjoy this mod is if you laugh at the quality of the writing. Sorry, but I'm still reeling from MC telling Yuri, "Walking around naked in your home is the best feeling ever," in the context of talking about books while they're in school and Yuri having no reaction to it. (WTF?) O_o
Apparently, this mod takes place at the end of DDLC after Monika killed everybody, except everyone's alive? And MC is aware of everything that Monika did? I think? There is very little to establish the setting, so it's not clear.
The action and scenes in this mod jump around weirdly so you can't tell where you are or what's happening, everyone acts out of character, there are lots of grammar and spelling errors, including lots of switching between past and present tense, and it ends very abruptly after less than five minutes of gameplay. The curious thing is I went into the game files and there's a fair bit more dialogue in there, but there's a "jump" command that skips over it, so you can't see a majority of the mod. Is this intentional? I have no idea, but a majority of the comments in the mod's post are bug reports, so it seems that the author released a buggy, nonfunctional mod as a full release. It's stuff like this that makes me think that this subreddit needs to establish some kind of minimal quality control for mods.

Sayori Shoots up DDLC! by chankamaster
As you might expect from the title, the story is that on the day of the festival, instead of killing herself, Sayori decides to shoot people. There isn't a whole lot else to say about it, really... it's a short, 20 minute, dark humour joke mod, though there seems to be more focus on jokes about school shooters than the actual shooting.
This mod is made by the same author as Doki Heika Banzai, so when I started, I was bracing myself for some deliberately offensive humour, and... well, there was some, but it was actually a lot tamer than I expected. For a mod with this title, I expected more blood than this; in fact, I'd say vanilla DDLC was bloodier than this... I was actually disappointed. A majority of the mod was the build-up to the shooting and the actual shooting was quite short. Still, if you wanted a mod where a sweet, innocent girl goes on a homicidal rampage, it does the job, I suppose.

True Literature Club (TLC) by Tormuse
(Trigger warnings included in the above link) I made this mod myself, so I'm kind of biased, so feel free to take this review with a grain of salt. :D That being said, this mod writes a new end to DDLC, starting from the decision point where you select who to spend the weekend with and ends at the festival. It has almost no new art, since the focus is on the story. It is intended to be a wholesome, heart-warming story that gives happy endings to all the Dokis with plenty of drama and plot twists along the way. (And a few jokes here and there too) :D There are four possible endings, one for each girl, including a secret route for Monika.
I wrote the characters to be as true to the original as possible (Even studying the original dialogue to capture the nuances of their personalities) to try to capture the look and feel of DDLC's Act 1. That being said, I did throw in some plot twists to keep things interesting and keep the audience guessing, so don't take anything for granted. ;)
The beginning of the mod is identical to vanilla DDLC up to the weekend decision point, so prepare to use the "Skip" button a lot to get to the start of any new content. (And depending on how things go, you might need to do it a second time to get to Monika's route) Apologies for that. I promise that any future mods I make will begin at the beginning. :)

Doki Doki College Club by DokiDokiStar
A short, linear, goofy, light-hearted mod (which gets a little less happy later on) that shows the cast of DDLC in college. It's an alternate timeline where DDLC never happened, so nobody knows each other, (except MC and Sayori) but they happen to meet in college and happen to join a literature club together there. Not much to say about it since it's so short, but it's full of jokes and memes and some new backgrounds and playful graphical effects.

Monika After Story by therationalpi and co.
A mod that simulates your life with Monika during Act 3 of DDLC. The whole mod is you looking into Monika's eyes in her room while she talks to you, only with new artwork for different poses and expressions for her. It has all of Monika's Act 3 dialogue from vanilla DDLC plus a fair bit of new dialogue. The new dialogue is fairly well-written and I can see that care was taken to make sure it matches the tone of Monika's original dialogue. It also features a menu for looking at previous conversation topics, sorted by category, in case you want to review anything she's said before, plus an option to bring up a new topic she hasn't said yet, and an option to tell her how you're feeling, which she will react to.
The really neat thing is that the new conversation topics added by the mod are filtered in slowly, so you can't get to them all in one session, in order to keep you coming back to Monika for more in future sessions. Some of them include questions that she asks you that she then incorporates into future dialogue. (Side note: Props to the authors for adding a non-binary gender option for when she asks your gender; it's nice to be inclusive) :) She also has different dialogue based on the time of day or night that you are playing as well as artwork to reflect whether it is day or night.
It also has additional options for selecting what background music to play and games and other activities you can play with Monika. You start off with the ability to play Pong and Chess, but others slowly filter in over time, including Hangman and a little piano keyboard where you can play the piano.
I do seem to have encountered a bug, though, (I think? Side note: I'm playing version 0.8.0 and it's gone through a few updates) where she stops bringing up topics automatically and just sits there, endlessly, wordlessly staring at me, even when I turn on "Repeat Topics" in the settings menu. She'll still talk to me if I manually push the "Talk" button, and I see there are still topics there that she hasn't talked about, but I was really hoping that she'd go through them on her own without my input. It's possible that she's doing this because she wasn't meant to be left open for several hours. (I wanted to make sure I tested her properly) :) The other thing that bugs me is that adjusting the text speed doesn't work; she always talks at the same slow pace. (I mean I'm kind of a slow reader, but not that slow!) I guess this is to recreate the feeling of Act 3 where she takes control of things, but I would have liked the ability to pick up the pace a bit. Oh well, it's still a very well put together mod that I can see had a lot of thought and care put into it, so I'm sure stuff like that will be smoothed out in the next release.

Yuri Route by kadeisacoder
This mod crashes on startup and doesn't work at all. In fact, there's a quote from the author in the Reddit post that says, "I hate this mod dearly thats why i removed its link you can find it on my github but still it doesn't represent me in a good light." I don't know why this mod is even on the list. Clearly, the author doesn't want anyone to play it.

DDLC RPG by ProfessorHerb
Trigger warnings for references to depression, suicide, self-harm, and domestic abuse. Not a mod, not even a visual novel. It's a Japanese-style role-playing game featuring all the characters of DDLC with all new graphics in a top-down view of the school, the Literature Club, and other locations. It features a lot of the original songs, plus a few new ones based on the originals.
The story is that after the events of DDLC, Monika brought everyone back, inserted them into a new game, and apologized and made up with the girls about everything she did during DDLC, ready to start a new life with them... but something isn't quite right in this new game world, so it's up to the girls and MC to go on a quest to fix it. Along the way, they'll battle their own inner demons as well as creatures they find within the game world. The dialogue and story ranges from wholesome to humourous to dark and does a good job of representing everyone's personalities from the original DDLC. I particularly liked the little interactions between the girls showing how they've developed as characters in this post-DDLC world.
As you level up your characters, they get stronger and gain new abilities related to their traits from DDLC... Monika gets coding abilities, Sayori has powers of wholesomeness, Natsuki's powers are based on baking, Yuri gets powers of weirdness, and MC has poetry powers. Their abilities are fairly well varied and balanced and keep things interesting, although I never did figure out how some of the mechanics of their abilities work even after playing through the whole game. For example, Sayori and Natsuki's magic points get restored at the beginning of each battle, (as do everyone's hitpoints) but Monika and Yuri have "TP" in the place of magic points and those seem to get reset to a random low value at the beginning of each battle, even if you restore them fully just before the battle. (Though they recharge each time they attack or get hit) Since the value they start at seems to be random, it can make strategizing tricky, because Monika and Yuri may or may not be able to use certain abilities at the start of any given battle. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing; it just struck me as a bit of an odd choice in game design. (Although it's possible that I just totally misunderstood how TP is supposed to work)
One other thing: I'm going to save you a bit of trouble and draw your attention to the "cancel" key. (default is X but you can redefine it in the menu) In addition to canceling menu choices, it brings up the menu in the first place! (which you need for just about everything, including checking inventory, skills, etc.) It's also used for backspacing MC's name at the very beginning of the game if you want to rename him. Using one key for these things isn't a problem in itself, but it isn't exactly intuitive to push X for all these things, which led to some frustration on my part until I figured it out.

Doki Doki Yandere Club! by CastelloV
A very short, very silly joke mod in which the girls of the Literature Club are obsessed with the main character and fight each other for his attention. It starts, looking like vanilla DDLC and new content begins at the point where you first officially join the club. (So you can just skip up to that point) Features new art for the girls with intense "yandere" looks in their eyes. There are quite a few grammar and spelling errors throughout, including rapid switches back and forth between past and present tense, but I was still mostly able to understand it.
It also features an Easter Egg... And I use the term "Easter Egg" loosely, because it's actually a majority of the content of the mod and changes it from being a somewhat amusing but forgettable mod to a hilarious and epic mod. :D I don't even get the references, but it was pretty entertaining. Anyway, to unlock the extra content, just name your character Smoo.

Doki Doki Literature Club, the Normal Visual Novel! by -PM_ME_SOMETHING
Trigger warnings for depression, talk and jokes about suicide, self-harm, and domestic abuse. A mod that re-imagines DDLC as a regular dating sim without all the Act 2 craziness and without anyone dying. It includes everything from DDLC's Act 1 and then, at the weekend decision point, you pick one of the four girls and you're locked into that girl's route for the rest of the game. You experience the festival, followed by a series of scenes between you and your girl of choice with maybe some implied sexy times if you play your cards right. ;) It includes a new casual outfit for Monika.
One thing I do have to commend this mod for is the integration of Monika into the poem game. She gets a little chibi version of herself that hops when you pick words she likes and she gets a few extra lines if she likes your poem. Unfortunately, she gets so few extra lines, (maybe a couple dozen or so) that it kind of feels like the author needn't have bothered with all of that. I think I would have preferred if the mod had started from the weekend decision point, and those extra lines had just been included in the post-festival section of her route. It would have saved me from doing a lot of skipping. (Aside from those few lines, the rest of the beginning is identical to the original, so be prepared to lean on the "skip" button for a while)
Doubly unfortunately, I'm sorry to say that this mod lacks polish, to say the least. It has some pretty glaring mistakes that reflect a lack of playtesting from the author, such as Monika spontaneously changing outfits multiple times in mid-sentence, Natsuki randomly disappearing and remaining invisible while you're talking to her, and an utterly incoherent beginning of Sayori's route which was a lot of awkard copy/pasted and spliced scenes and dialogue from the original game with new stuff that made it totally nonsensical. There's also a confusing bit before the festival starts that I think is supposed to be a flash-forward/flashback thing that could have been made a lot clearer.
Also, also, I felt that the mod doesn't capture the girls' personalities very well. This is par for the course in a mod; it is perfectly fine for any author to re-invent what characters are like, but this mod tries to integrate new dialogue with old in some places and it feels very jarring to go back and forth between them. Some parts are better than others, but I particularly found Monika's character to be pretty bland. I mean she confesses to be in love with you within five minutes of conversation, which I'm sure some people would love, but it just doesn't feel like her, so I kind of feel like, "what's the point?" I was also bothered by MC joking about suicide right after his conversation with Sayori about her depression; for a mod that otherwise seems to be trying to be wholesome, it feels very, very out of place. I think the part that bugged me the most, though, came at the end of Yuri's route: Over Yuri's vocal objections, MC forcibly pulls up her sleeve to look at the cuts on her arm. (Which he does after zero discussion of her self-harm habit) For someone who is depressed enough to self-harm, this would be a pretty traumatic thing to experience, but Yuri seems indifferent about it. Then, after a few words, he starts kissing her and turns it into a make-out session. I can't begin to tell you how utterly icky and creeped out I felt to witness that.

Doki Doki Meme Club! by pooshscams
Trigger warning for transphobia. A short joke mod in which the Literature Club has been replaced by a meme club, where the members share memes with each other and make fun of "normies" all afternoon. (Including the Natsuki "trap" meme and a random image of Pepe the frog, for some reason) The characters are not very nice to each other in this mod, with lots of fighting and insulting each other, so don't expect any wholesomeness here. (I think Yuri got the worst of it, personally)
I have to be honest... most of the jokes went over my head. (I guess I'm too much of a normie, myself) :P There are lots of references to memes I'm not familiar with and an extended section where the girls are discussing music groups and songs I'm not familiar with. Basically, this mod feels like it's directed at a very specific audience; I'm not sure what that audience is, but it seems that I'm not in it. I expect that people who are more into memes will appreciate it more than I did.

Doki Doki Literature Club: The Festival by Ninjo07
Trigger warnings for scenes of Suicide and self-harm. A mod that imagines the events of the festival and the week that would have followed if Monika hadn't interfered and caused all the Act 2 stuff. The club gets a new member... a boy named Wallace who MC quickly finds himself competing with for the affections of the girls of the club, as everyone continues trying to impress each other by writing poems each day. The scope of their rivalry quickly grows, though, and it's revealed that there's a lot more going on than it first appears. The mod features the classic MC sprites for Wallace and a lot of new poetry!
One thing that I absolutely have to commend this mod for is the setup at the beginning. It assumes that you've played DDLC before and gives you a choice of doing just the poems over again or choosing which of the girls you liked/disliked/spent the weekend with. This is a far more elegant way to start the game than forcing the player to play through Act 1 over again like most mods of this type do, my own included. (Seriously! I wish I'd thought of doing this in my own mod!)
The other thing I liked was the coding work in the late game. I can't talk too much about it because of spoilers, but they did stuff I didn't know you could do with the code, so that was pretty cool and made the ending very interesting. I do feel that the middle stuff on the way to the late game lacked some polish, though. It felt like each day was in a rush to be over, with all the focus being on the conflict with Wallace and so in a lot of cases, the girls end up getting a lot of "filler" dialogue as a result. (ie. "This poem is good," or "I didn't like this poem," as their entire critique of your poem)
Lastly, there was one other thing that bothered me and it's technically spoilers, but it relates to the trigger warnings I mentioned, so I think it's important: There are two nightmare dream sequences, one which is Sayori's suicide scene copy/pasted from the original game and Yuri's suicide scene also copy/pasted from the original game. I really don't know why they're there, since they just don't fit with anything going on in the story or with existing themes. They seem oddly out of place and there doesn't seem to be any reason for them to exist except to re-traumatize players, I guess.
